An Orondo firefighter who pulled a man from a burning car last December was honored Wednesday with a Life Saving Award from the Washington State Patrol.
On Dec. 9, 2020, a vehicle later reported as stolen left Highway 97 and rolled several times outside Orondo.
Firefighter Scott Carter witnessed the accident and was first on the scene.
After finding the driver unable to escape the burning vehicle because of jammed doors, Carter broke the passenger window and pulled Jorge Cruz, 24, to safety as flames were consuming the car.
Cruz was treated for minor injuries at Central Washington Hospital.
State Patrol Captain Matt Couchman presented the award to Carter.
