SAGINAW, MI - While Michigan begins to lift its COVID-19 restrictions and cases continue to plummet, Saginaw Transit Authority & Regional Services, or STARS, will continue to require masks on rides.
In a news release Monday, STARS reiterated the CDC’s federal order requiring masks on public transit is still in effect even as Michigan’s mask mandate ends.
“The Governor is lifting Michigan’s mask mandate, but that doesn’t apply to buses,” STARS Executive Director Glenn Steffens said in the release. “Please respect your drivers and fellow riders, and continue to mask up.”
During the pandemic, STARS limited the number of riders on its buses and rolled back services where necessary to minimize the risk of COVID-19 exposure and continue its operations. STARS ended its capacity limits on June 7.
As of May 15, STARS temporarily ended Saturday lift services because of an employee shortage. The service is currently hiring for multiple positions.
