GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - After seeing a co-worker walking to and from work everyday one woman decided to take action and do something about it. Michelle Dramse realized her co-worker, Alexis Beeder, had been walking to their work at Saint Francis Ministries everyday and knew there was something she could do to help.
“We was just in a position and blessed to be able to provide that to her,” Dramse said. “We’re foster parents of teens so, we had an extra car that was just sitting around and I seen that she was in need and so we discussed it and so we offer it to her and her family.”
Beeder started as an assistant programmer at Saint Francis Ministries in August and had been walking to work ever since. She remembered back to October when Dramse came to her asking if she wanted the car.
“I didn’t really know what to say, really know how to act ... I was just like, shocked,” Beeder said.
Saint Francis Minsitries is a nonprofit that serves children and families and Dramse said giving her co-worker such a gift reminded her of what they do on a daily basis.
“It just made me think about the children we serve and our own foster children and their families, the impact that transportation does have on families and really restricts them on what they can and can’t do,” she said.
To get to work, Beeder would sometimes have to make her way through the cold rain, but now that she has a car, she could keep warm and dry on her daily commute.
“It saves me quite a bit of time because before it took me about ten minutes to get to work and now it takes me roughly two to three minutes,” Beeder said.
She continued to say, the car had not only been a great gift to her, but it had also been helpful to her family as well as for driving children around for work.
“Thank you and we really appreciate it, you know. Truly,” Beeder said.
