GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Summer may have just started but school will come faster than you think. That’s why Grand Island Public Schools is getting a head start with its Stuff The Bus event.
Last year they were able to collect enough supplies to give away a thousand backpacks during their annual Back to School Bash and this year they hope to help even more families. They believe this program is vital to the community and without it, many students wouldn’t be prepared for the upcoming school year.
“We have a lot of families who can’t buy backpacks or can’t afford the supplies needed to get their kids ready for the school year, so we try to help out in the community by getting the donations and just supply those, so that’s one less thing parents have to worry about,” said GIPS Families and Transition Coordinator Holly Boeselager.
This weekend and next weekend, volunteers will be outside both Walmarts in Grand Island collecting school supplies. They’re also accepting monetary donations as well. They’re also looking for more volunteers, so if you’re interested in passing out flyers and helping collect supplies call the Kneale Administration Building at (308) 385-5900 and ask for Boeselager.
The most needed school supplies for Stuff The Bus are:
17-inch backpacks
Loose leaf college ruled paper
Single subject notebooks
1-inch binders
Pencil boxes
Crayons and colored pencils
Pink erasers
Scissors
