Direct express bus service makes getting to the airport easy—especially for those upcoming November and December trips out of town
Public health officials are in agreement: We can enjoy a much more normal winter holiday season this year. This means we’ll be jetting off to see family and friends for the first time since the pandemic started. Or we might finally be taking those vacation days to enjoy a winter getaway, skiing or soaking up some sun on a white-sand beach.
Wherever we’re headed, one thing is clear: It’s more fun to spend money on the vacation itself and not on transportation to the airport. One-way shuttle service the day before Thanksgiving, for example, can cost $70-$100. Long-term airport parking rates are $10 a day.
Enter Sacramento Regional Transit District, which relaunched its Airport Express Bus (Route 142). Direct service to Terminals A and B costs only $2.50 for a single ride, $1.25 for discounted eligible riders, and is free for kids in grades K-12. If you’re using the ZipPass mobile fare app or Connect Card, you can also enjoy a free transfer within 90 minutes to or from a SacRT bus and light rail.
In addition to its brilliant affordability, it’s convenient too. There are multiple downtown Route 142 bus stops, as well as easy access from several light rail stations. For example, you can take the Gold Line from Folsom, exit at the 8th & Capitol Station and board the Express Bus at 9th and L streets.
But if all of that isn’t enough, your trip to the airport is now environmentally friendly.
“We are so glad to be able to bring back the Airport Express Bus service, especially operating with an all-electric zero-emission bus fleet,” says SacRT General Manager/CEO Henry Li. “The Express Bus is not only a great option for convenient transportation between downtown Sacramento and the Airport, it is also a clean air alternative to driving and parking.”
SacRT’s Airport Express operates between downtown Sacramento and the Sacramento International Airport every 30 minutes, seven days a week. Service begins at 4:45 a.m. and operates until 11:29 p.m. There is extra space for luggage onboard, as well as free Wi-Fi so you can check your flight status.
“We are thrilled SacRT has restarted the Airport Express bus service to (Sac International),” says Cindy Nichol, Director of Airports for Sacramento County. “This is a long desired service for our passengers and a great connector between downtown and the airport.”
As this holiday season rolls around, it’s an easy choice: Jump on SacRT’s Airport Express e-bus to get to your flight. It’s convenient, easy, good for the planet and wildly affordable.
