Impaired driving: Highland Road
A vehicle crashed into utility pole around 11:20 p.m. Jan. 19 and caused downed wires that had to be attended to by the electric company. The driver was found shirtless and incoherent by responding officers. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of intoxication and possible mental health issues. The Orange man, 44, was found to be under the effects of PCP and subsequently charged with OVI, resisting arrest, and driving under suspension. He also had a warrant for probation violation and was eventually taken to county jail.
Fraud: Ridgebury Boulevard
A woman, 87, reported Jan. 19 that she was the victim of an online scam after receiving an alert that her bank account was hacked. She contacted a provided phone number and was told she needed to purchase gift cards to stop the hack. She bought $2,000 worth of Best Buy gift cards and sent the redemption codes to the unknown person. She became suspicious when asked to purchase more gift cards and contacted her bank to learn her account was not compromised.
Theft: Muirfield Drive
A member of a homeowner’s association said Jan. 22 that various records for the association were missing or destroyed. She believed the issue was with the previous president of the association and she wanted the information documented in case of any potential lawsuits.
Theft: Wilson Mills Road
A Cleveland Heights woman, 57, was cited at Home Depot Jan. 23 for the theft of merchandise she concealed in her purse.
Disturbance: Millridge Road
Two AT&T subcontractors reported Jan. 23 that a resident was harassing them while they were inspecting phone lines. It was found the woman was only video recording them. The workers were told she was within her right to do what she did from her property.
Theft from auto: Wilson Mills Road
A man reported Jan. 25 that someone entered his truck while he was at Home Depot and stole a briefcase, containing his checkbook. He said he was later contacted by the suspect and offered his briefcase returned to him. The two met and the briefcase was returned without the checkbook. The suspect unknowingly left his personal identification card and documents in the briefcase. That property was turned over to police. No charges have been filed.
Harassing communication: Rutland Drive
A resident said Jan. 25 that he received an email from a former client that he felt was threatening in nature. Officers reviewed the email and only found some anecdotal information of an incident involving other people. They also contacted the Erie man, 30, and he said there was no threat implied. Both men were told to have no further contact with each other.
Suspicion: Sandhurst Drive
A resident said Jan. 25 that he received a message on his answering machine from a female saying, “help me, I’m dying.” Officers called the number and spoke to a woman who said she received a call from a resident, who did not leave a message. She felt it was a prank or scam, so she returned the call and jokingly left the message the resident reported.
