Passenger-car registrations in the European Union rose sharply in March due to a low comparison base in the prior year as result of coronavirus restrictions introduced at the time.
New car registrations--a reflection of sales--rose 87% on year to 1,062,446 vehicles, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association said Friday.
Among the major markets, Spain, France and Italy reported triple-digit percentage gains, while registrations rose 36% in Germany, the organization, also known as the ACEA, said.
In the January-to-March period, EU passenger-car registrations rose 3.2% to 2.6 million vehicles.
