EUREKA (HOI) - What started out as a way to cover up rust on his car, turns into a fun, pandemic project for a Eureka High School senior.
Garrett Thomas now has over 10,000 stickers covering his 2007 Volkswagen Jetta.
Lots of folks found new hobbies during the pandemic, but Thomas used his down time covering the rust on one fender. That later turned into the entire car, spending about 60 hours and a couple hundred dollars.
He says, that is a lot cheaper than paying to get the rust and paint fixed.
Plus, he now draws a lot of attention every time he leaves the driveway.
"I'll come driving down the street and I'll just be looking straight and I'll see in my peripheral vision people looking over like 'Whoa.' Or I'll see people behind me pull out their phones and taking a video. It's pretty funny to watch," said Thomas.
Thomas say's he'll drive his beloved VW until it dies, but he admits this project was a strictly one-time deal. He says next time, he'll pay to paint his car, or something that's more weatherproof and less time consuming.
