A man in his mid-30s suffered fatal injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a car near Liberty Park in Salt Lake city on Saturday morning.
Police said the crash happened at 8:54 a.m. in the intersection of 700 East and 1300 South.
It appears an SUV was northbound on 700 East while the motorcyclist was southbound. The driver of the SUV turned to go westbound on 1300 South, and hit the motorcycle, according to initial reports from police.
Bystanders who witnessed the crash attempted CPR on the motorcyclist, as did first responders when they got on scene. Despite those efforts, the man died at the crash scene.
Police are still investigating and could not immediately offer more information.
Lt. Lisa Pascadlo with SLCPD said we're getting into the riding season now that the weather is warming up, and this crash can serve as a reminder to everyone "to remember their own responsibilities to the other users of the roadway, and to just be careful around each other and pay attention."
Everybody's enjoying this beautiful weather we have, and sometimes we're not paying as much attention to the road as we should," Pascadlo said. "The reminder is to please by very aware, particularly with motorcycles. They're difficult to see when they're coming, and you need to make that second look before you turn."
