Pedestrian killed by car on SR 9 | News, Sports, Jobs - SalemNews.net

A fatal accident involving a single car and pedestrian on Friday is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to the patrol, the accident happened at 9:56 p.m. A 2010 Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on state Route 9 near milepost 3. A pedestrian was standing in the middle of the northbound lane. The Impala struck the pedestrian in the roadway and stopped.

Nancy K. Altenhof, 75, of Salem was pronounced dead on scene by the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Brittany K. Dopp of Lisbon, sustained no injuries. The vehicle had two others passengers who did not suffer injuries.

Assisting at the scene were the Hanover Township Fire Dept., Maple Cotton EMS and the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the patrol, charges for the crash are still pending with the investigation.

The patrol encourages drivers to reduce speed on rural routes and to pay attention to surroundings.
