Volkswagen's Chattanooga-made Atlas SUV is one of 14 vehicles on Car.com's Car Seat Check Honor Roll.

According to Volkswagen of America, Cars.com recognizes which family vehicles best fit car seats and have easy-to-use latch systems for car-seat installation. It's the second year in a row that Atlas has earned a spot on the list.

"Volkswagen has grown our SUV family to fit the needs of America's families," said Hein Schafer, Volkswagen of America's senior vice president of product marketing and strategy, in a statement. "Being recognized for the family-friendly features of Atlas is a sign that we're getting it right."

Certified child passenger safety technicians evaluate vehicle latch systems by installing a rear-facing infant seat, rear- and forward-facing convertible, and a high-back booster seat into each car. To qualify for the honor roll, vehicles must receive straight-A grades across all categories. The 2020 Atlas scored straight A's across the board for both the seven-passenger model and six-passenger Atlas with second-row captain's chairs, according to the company.

Jenni Newman, Cars.com editor-in-chief and certified child passenger safety technician, said the Atlas is "loaded with family-friendly features, has a roomy third row and when equipped with the second-row bench seat, it easily fits three car seats."

This summer, Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant revealed plans to directly hire about 150 production employees by year's end to meet demand for assembly of its existing vehicles and ready for building an electric SUV by 2022. In addition to the Atlas, the company assembles the Atlas Cross Sport SUV and Passat sedan.

"Our goal is to extend at least 10 job offers every week for the remainder of the year," said Tom du Plessis, president and chief executive of Volkswagen Chattanooga.

Also, Volkswagen Chattanooga contract employer Aerotek said it was trying to fill 175 jobs.

The plant employs about 3,800 people.
