A 12-year-old San Francisco boy was struck and killed by a car in the Bayview neighborhood Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The medical examiner’s office identified the victim as San Francisco resident Jesai Andrews, 12.

Officers responding to reports of a crash found Andrews suffering from life-threatening injuries on the 900 block of Ingerson Avenue at 10:11 a.m., said Robert Rueca, a spokesman for San Francisco police. The driver stayed at the scene of the accident.

Paramedics responded, but Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was riding a skateboard when the collision occurred, according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

The driver cooperated with investigators, Rueca said. Police did not disclose whether the driver was impaired at the time of the accident.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased youth for this tragic incident,” police said in a statement.
