PLEASANTON — A car hit and killed a pedestrian walking on a busy Pleasanton roadway Friday night, authorities said.

At about 7:40 p.m., police were called to the intersection of Johnson Drive and Owens Drive for a report of a collision, Sgt. Robert Shuffield said Saturday. A car had been traveling southbound on Johnson when it struck a man walking near Owens Drive.

Although paramedics rushed him to the hospital, the man died from his injuries, Shuffield said. His identity will be released pending his formal identification and notification of next of kin by the coroner’s office.

Police have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision, Shuffield said. Anyone with information related to the incident may contact the Pleasanton Police Department Traffic Unit at 925-931-5100.
