Philadelphia police have issued an arrest warrant for a man accused of fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend, whose body was found about a mile away from his burning car.
Investigators are now searching for Justin Smith, 23, who is accused of killing 21-year-old Dianna Brice, of Lansdowne, NBC 10 is reporting.
Brice’s mother told police her daughter was last seen getting into Smith’s car on March 30 at the K Laundry in Lansdowne, as the two were heading out to pick up some medication Brice needed, reports indicate. Brice later told her mother they were driving to Philadelphia, and that’s the last she heard from her daughter, according to reports.
When Brice’s mother called Smith shortly afterwards, he told her they had gotten into an argument and Brice walked off, reports indicate.
Hours later, Smith’s car was found engulfed in flames at 59th and Florence streets in Philadelphia, Action News 6 ABC is reporting. No one was inside the car.
Police continued to search for Brice, and on April 5, they found her body about a mile away in the woods on the 5800 block of Eastwick Avenue, reports indicate. She had been shot multiple times in the head and appears to have been shot in Smith’s car, according to reports.
Police say the investigation also revealed that Smith’s friend, 21-year-old Tylydiah Garnett, helped him, reports indicate. She was spotted on surveillance video buying gasoline before going to a garage that Smith either owned or rented, where they loaded Brice’s body into the trunk of the car, according to reports.
Garnett fled to Miami, but she was arrested on Saturday, reports indicate. She was released on $75,000 bail and is facing charges that include arson, criminal conspiracy and abuse of a corpse, according to reports.
Police continue to search for Smith.
