DEWAR, Iowa (KWWL) -- Classic cars and motorcycles stole the show in Dewar Sunday, for the first car show to debut in the town.

The car show was in held in memory of local Iowan, Dennis Maurer.

For 50 years, Maurer was the owner of his auto repair shop called, Mauer Repair, and Maurer passed away this year.

One participant shared why he was so excited to show off his dream car today, "My story I had neck and throat cancer, this was my child-hood dream car, and this is the first car show of the year, and just came to live my dream."

Entry fees were $15, and all the proceeds will be going to the Dewar park renovations, located across the street from the show.

An award presentation was scheduled for 3 p.m., and the following awards were handed out:

  • Top 30 cars
  • Top five motorcycles
  • Maurer Family Choice
  • Dash Plaques to first 75 cars
