The bus was taken from a parking lot near the bus terminal on Hamilton Street at about 9 a.m. Friday, Albany Police said.

The bus was not in service at the time and was not used for passengers. Instead, it was an older bus used by CDTA for other activities, Albany police said.

After the bus was discovered missing, Albany police put out the information to look for the vehicle and state police learned the bus had entered the Thruway at Exit 24 headed south, state police said.

Troopers then spotted the bus at about 9:37 a.m. about three miles south of Exit 23, where they stopped it, state police said.

Troopers identified the man found driving it as Jonathan B. Bonaparte, 29, of Albany. He faces one count each of third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies.

He was arraigned and ordered held without bail due to two prior felony convictions, state police said.
