Summer arrives this month, though it arrived unofficially on Memorial Day weekend. June brings plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy a Pure Michigan summer. Among the events scheduled this month in Allegan, Muskegon, and Ottawa counties, there are car shows and art festivals, along with a concert and a musical. This list includes options for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or interest.

June 4, Show begins at 5 p.m., Cruise starts on Eighth Street at 9 p.m.
Free to attend; $10 per vehicle entry
For a true “blast from the past,” head to downtown Holland for a fun-filled Friday night. Vintage cars from every decade between 1900 and 2000 will be on display in the parking lot behind the former car dealership. To add to the fun, a DJ will be spinning oldies tunes. After the show, be sure to bring along your lawn chair and “stake your claim” on Eighth Street for the 9 p.m. Vintage Car Cruise.

Celebrate National Trails Day, now in its 28th year. Pick up your “Trail Card” and instructions between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., and then visit any of the selected trails. Get your card stamped at three or more trails and the coupons on the back of your trail card become valid. Get your card stamped at six or more trails and you will be entered into a drawing to win some terrific prizes. What better way to enjoy nature and, maybe, win some cool stuff?

Antique Farm Power Club Tractor and Engine Show (13th annual)
Muskegon County Fairgrounds, 6621 Heights-Ravenna Road, Fruitport
June 10–12,  9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
$5 donation; children 12 and younger admitted free
Looking for something new and different? How about tractor pulls, a Model A swap meet, flea market, food vendors, toy displays, antique farm equipment demonstrations, a “valve cover” car derby, as well as a tractor/truck parade. And if that’s not enough, you can enjoy farm equipment demonstrations and exhibits, watch a blacksmith forge his wares, and learn about threshing, baling, and corn shelling. If you want to spend the night, camping is available for $10 a night.

While at Pat’s Yellow Barn Studio, enjoy Pat Rempel’s watercolors and oils along with Mary Alice Townsend’s fabric art and Doug Hiser’s bird carvings. Then head to Stone Forest Pottery, where Teresa Wooden is showcasing not only her beautiful pottery, but also herbs, pre-bonsai, and perennials from Westview Farms.

Holland Symphony Summer Brass Series
Windmill Island Gardens, 1 Lincoln Ave., Holland

Free to Holland residents (with ID); cost of admission for non-residents (Adults is $10 and Youth, ages 3 to 15, is $5)
Spread a blanket on the ground or bring a lawn chair and relax in the shadow of a 260-year-old Dutch windmill while the Holland Symphony Orchestra Brass Quartet performs light pops and classical music. Following the concert, tour the mill and stroll the grounds of this beautiful treasure.

White Lake Arts & Crafts Festival
Goodrich Park, 100 N. Lake St., Whitehall
June 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
June 20, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
More than 70 artists showcase their talents and wares at this juried arts and crafts fair. Now in its 42nd year, the festival features handmade jewelry, wood furniture, birdhouses, ceramics, garden decor, clothing, paintings and prints, folk art, leather goods, floral designs, stained glass, signs, children’s toys, and bath items. Adding to the fun is an inflatable obstacle course and jump house, food trucks, and live music.

Grand Haven Art Festival

The Muskegon Lakeshore Art Festival is returning in June.

The Muskegon Lakeshore Art Festival has booked nearly 200 fine art and craft exhibitors and is preparing for a celebratory way to safely bring the community back together. Sunshine Artist Magazine, a national publication, has featured LAF for the past six years as one of the Top 200 Festivals in the country based on artist votes. The event is hosted by the Muskegon Downtown Development Authority.
