MIDDLETOWN — Crews freed a bus carrying occupants that was trapped under electrical wires Wednesday morning, according to police.
Lt. Brian Hubbs said first responders were dispatched to wires down on a bus in the area of Saw Mill Road and Atkins Street around 6:50 a.m.
The high winds knocked power lines down on Middletown High School’s Bus 8 while it was en route to the school, Middletown Public Schools spokeswoman Jessie B. Lavorgna. She said there were six students and one driver inside the bus.
Despite thousands of outages after a nor’easter hit the state on Tuesday, Hubbs said Eversource prioritized the Saw Mill Road call and was able to get power shut down quickly. He said an Eversource crew cut the power to the lines, allowing the bus to continue its route.
A crew from Hunter’s Ambulance responded and staged in the area but there were no injuries, Hubbs said. There was no damage to the bus.
Since Saw Mill Road is a side street that isn’t heavily traveled, Hubbs said, police do not expect an impact on the daily commute if Eversource has to close down the road for repairs.
