OAKLAND — A vehicle drove into Lake Merritt for the second time this week, authorities said.

Just before 7 a.m. Saturday, Oakland police were called to Foothill Boulevard and Lakeshore Avenue for a report of a car in the lake, a dispatcher confirmed. When they arrived they found a 1998 Cadillac in the water with a man sitting on the top to keep from getting wet.

There were no injuries reported, but further details about the circumstances of the incident were not immediately available.

Earlier this week, a Honda Civic left the roadway in the 600 block of Bellevue Avenue — near the gazebo of Lakeside Park — and likewise drove into the water about two miles away from Saturday’s incident. No injuries were reported.

By about 8:45 a.m., police were wrapping up the car rescue, the dispatcher said.
