Two boys were struck by a car in Westlake Village and one was killed, the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department said.

The crash occurred at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday on Triunfo Canyon Road, a four-lane thoroughfare in a residential area.

Two male juveniles — their ages were not given — were struck, the sheriff’s report said. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to a hospital.

A “person of interest” was detained.

TV station KNBC said the sheriff’s department cited street racing as a possible cause.

There is a crosswalk with signs at the intersection where the boys were hit, but the initial report did not say if they were in it. The road has sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides.

In images from the crash scene, a scooter, a helmet and rollerblades are lying on the sidewalk.

Westlake Village is off the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) just east of Thousand Oaks. The crash site is 4 miles from that of a single-car accident last month that killed two young men, one of them the teenage brother of R&B musician Frank Ocean.
