BEACHWOOD, Ohio -- Grand theft by deception: Beacon Drive

At 8:05 p.m. Oct. 14, a man, 69, reported that he was the victim of a telephone fraud that cost him $4,390.

Assault: Park East Drive

At 3:55 a.m. Oct. 15, police arrested a Maple Heights man, 19, for assaulting his girlfriend, 19, of Cleveland, while in a room at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 3663 Park East Drive. The man allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the neck during an argument and pushed her onto the room’s bed.

The woman was able to escape the room and call police.

Domestic violence: Cedar Road

At 2:40 p.m. Oct. 15, police were called to the parking lot of Beachwood Place mall, 26300 Cedar Road, where a woman, 25, of Cleveland, stated that the father of her two-month-old daughter had assaulted her. The woman said the three were in a car about to go into the mall to buy clothes for the baby when an argument began. The man, 33, of Euclid, allegedly choked the woman.

Police arrested the man on a domestic violence charge.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 3 p.m. Oct. 15, police arrested a Cleveland man, 22, for stealing a hat valued at $26 from Dillard’s at Beachwood Place.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 7:45 p.m. Oct. 15, a woman, 76, reported that while she was away from her apartment that afternoon, someone entered the dwelling and stole jewelry and cash from a wall safe. The total amount of the theft was estimated at $15,400.

OVI: I-271

At 12:35 a.m. Oct. 17, a car struck a utility pole off I-271 southbound, at Chagrin Boulevard. Police investigated and learned that the driver, a Cleveland man, 44, was intoxicated.

Police charged the man with OVI, driving with a suspended license, and failure to maintain reasonable control of a motor vehicle.

Theft: Cedar Road

At 4:40 p.m. Oct. 17, police arrested a Garfield Heights woman, 18, for stealing clothing worth a total value of $208.50 from Dillard’s.

Body found: Park East Drive

At 12:50 p.m. Oct. 18, police searching for a missing Lyndhurst man thought to be in a Beachwood hotel, found the man dead in a room at Hotel Indigo, 3581 Park East Drive.

The man, 31, had flu-like symptoms, according to his roommate, and believed he may have contracted COVID-19. As a result, the man went to the hotel to self-quarantine. In his room, police found several cold medicines. Foul play and suicide were ruled out as causes of death. The medical examiner is reviewing the case.

Warrant arrest: George Zeiger Drive

At 12:10 a.m. Oct. 19, police were called to the Four Seasons Apartments, 26600 George Zeiger Drive, where a man and woman were arguing. Although it was determined that nothing physical had happened between the man and his girlfriend, it was discovered that the woman, 27, of Cleveland, was wanted on a Warrensville Heights police warrant. The woman was arrested on the warrant.

Identity theft: Crafton Road

At 12:50 p.m. Oct. 19, a Beachwood man, 53, reported that someone used his identity to secure a student loan in the amount of $10,200.

Fleeing and eluding: Beachwood Boulevard

At 2:55 a.m. Oct. 13, University Heights police requested help from Beachwood police in stopping a car that was attempting to elude officers. As Beachwood police gave chase, the car crashed into a tree on Beachwood Boulevard, after turning from South Green Road.

The driver got out of the car and ran and was apprehended, with the help of a K-9, on nearby Greenlawn Avenue. The driver, a Cleveland boy, 16, faces several traffic charges.

Theft from auto: East Silsby Road

At 8:25 a.m. Oct. 20, a Beachwood man, 71, reported that someone entered his car, as it was parked overnight in his driveway, and stole $20 in cash and other items. The man was unsure if he had locked the car. In addition, the garage door was found open.
