Drunken driving: Pearl Road

An officer at 10:40 a.m. Sept. 10 saw a stopped car that had its front and rear right tires completely flat. Its rims were damaged. The officer then saw the driver passed out behind the wheel. The officer parked his patrol car behind the car and activated overhead lights. Another patrol car was parked in front of the car since it was in the drive position. The motorist suddenly woke up. The officer ordered her to place the car into park and open the car door, which she did. The officer immediately smelled alcohol. She told the officer she did not drink any alcohol that day. She then said she had a “drink” after work and was on her way home. Based on her field sobriety tests, she was arrested for drunken driving. She was transported to the station where she refused to take a breath test. Her car was searched before the tow. Found inside were an open bottle of whiskey, a plastic bag of marijuana, some pills, white substance inside a piece of paper and aluminum foil with a burnt substance. A vape pen with possible THC also was found. The woman said her tires were flat because she struck a center median that damaged her tires. She said she didn’t know which median she struck. She was also cited for having an open container, driving under suspension and unreasonable control.

Warrant: Sheldon Road

A police officer checked a car’s registration at 2:06 pm. Sept. 9 after the driver made a turn without using the directional signal. The officer then learned the motorist did not have a driver’s license. The car pulled over after seeing the cruiser’s flashing lights. The driver immediately told the officer she did not have a license. The officer asked the passenger, who was the motorist’s boyfriend, if he had a driver’s license, but the man became irate and would not answer him. The officer told him he was just trying to help the situation. The passenger said he did not have a license. The motorist gave the officer the passenger’s name. He had several active warrants for his arrest. The passenger was taken to the station. The driver was cited for operating a car without a license. She was told to park the car until a licensed driver arrived.

Drunken driving: Jefferson Parkway

Police went to an apartment complex at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 when a woman struck a car twice and ran upstairs to her residence. The officer spoke with a witness who said the suspect pulled into a parking spot and struck a parked car several times. The suspect then got out of the car and looked around. The witness told the officer she confronted the lady and told her to stay there while she contacted the owner. The witness then contacted the owner of the stuck car and called 911. The victim came down to her car while the officer was there and saw the damage. She told the officer she knew the owner of the car, which was parked halfway into the spot and on the curb. She said it was a woman who was always drunk and gave the officer her apartment number. The officer knocked on the woman’s door. The woman opened the door and the officer immediately smelled alcohol. Her speech was slurred. She admitted she drank and drove her car. The officer learned the suspect had a drunken driving suspension. She was arrested. A bottle of vodka was found in her car. At 2:21 p.m. her blood alcohol content measured .281. She was transported to the hospital due to a concern.

Theft: Baldwin Court

An officer went to a residence at 8:28 p.m. Sept. 11 for a missing license plate and found a Cleveland Metroparks ranger at the home. The ranger was there when he noticed a blue pickup truck driving in the Metroparks bearing a license plate that belonged to a black truck whose owner lived in Middleburg Heights. That blue truck, however, drove out of sight as the ranger learned the plate was on a different truck. The ranger then went to the house and found the black truck without its rear license plate. He then contacted the truck’s owner who said it must have been stolen. The ranger then called local police. The ranger said the blue truck was suspected in the misuse of credit cards and theft from autos, but its owner was unknown. That truck had a yellow bubble light on its roof. The victim could not give a time frame as to when the license plate was stolen. Later that night the officer saw that blue pickup on Bagley Road. The truck pulled into a gas station, with the officer following it and with its cruiser’s emergency lights flashing. The truck fled and turned onto I-71 south. The officer was told not to pursue it since it was only for a stolen plate.

Dangerous drugs: Pearl Road

Police went to True North Energy Shell at 9:07 p.m. Sept. 12 for a man having trouble parking his car. An officer arrived and found the driver sleeping behind the wheel with the car running, which was about six feet from the curb. The driver woke up after the officer tapped him on the shoulder. He had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. He told the officer he had not slept in days due to working and does not drink. The officer saw pills in the suspect’s car while the man tried to perform field sobriety tests. He said the pills, which were in a plastic bag, belonged to his wife. The man was arrested for drunken driving and his car towed. His blood tested positive for intoxicants. He said he took morphine prior to his driving that night.

Theft: Markal Drive

A resident called police at 6:25 a.m. Sept. 9 to report his car stolen overnight from his driveway. He believed he left the keys in the car, which was unlocked.

Disorderly conduct: Southland Drive

A Marc’s employee called police at 3:04 a.m. Sept. 10 about a man who was passed out in front of the store. An officer arrived and found the man wearing one shoe. The suspect said he was at a local bar but was unsure how he got there and the location of his other shoe. He had a strong odor of alcohol on him and his speech slurred. He had trouble standing and walking. The officer transported him to the station after he was unable to find someone to pick him up.

Theft: Lucerne Drive

An officer went to an apartment at 3:11 a.m. Sept. 1. The resident said he received a fraud alert text message about his credit card at 1:50 a.m. He went out to his car where he left his credit card and noticed his front passenger window was smashed. His credit card was gone. He parked it there at 4 p.m. the night before. No other cars were vandalized.

Grand theft: Engle Road

An officer went to a construction site at 6:25 a.m. Sept. 8 about a stolen trailer. An employee with JSP Excavating said he arrived at the work site that morning to find the company’s work trailer missing. He said the two locks were cut and on the ground where the trailer was last seen. The black trailer is about 30 feet long and has a drop door on the rear with a man door on the right side of it. It is worth about $6,000, with its contents valued at $10,000.
