1 arrested after Duval County school bus hit by BB - WJXT News4JAX

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A person of interest was detained Wednesday evening after police officers were dispatched to a report of a “school bus shot,” according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

No injuries were reported by police.

Lt. N.J. Dalone, with the Sheriff’s Office, said police were called to Villanova Road near Broward Road at about 4:30 p.m. He said 12 students were on the bus along with the driver. The bus had recently left Highlands Middle School.

Originally, Dalone said it was unclear whether the bus was struck by a bullet or a BB. News4Jax noticed a shattered window.

Later in the evening, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed the bus was hit by a BB. Investigators said a suspect confessed and was arrested. A person of interest was detained at the scene.

News4Jax has covered other incidents involving school buses in the past several years.

In March 2019, a 12-year-old student was injured after being hit by a “metal projectile” while riding a school bus. The bus had left Mayport Middle School, when the projectile flew through a window, hitting that student.

In 2016, 17-year-old Martinez Jennings was arrested for shooting a pellet gun at a bus.

In May of 2015, there was a shooting on the Westside that left two female students injured. Edgar Robles, 17, pleaded guilty to charges. Police said he was arguing with students on the bus when he pulled out a gun and fired several shots.
