CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio

Aggravated robbery: Cedar Road

At 4:45 p.m. Oct. 16, officers responded to a call from a woman who reported that two male suspects, each brandishing a gun, had taken her car and purse while she was at the Sunoco gas station, 12404 Cedar Road.

The woman had completed pumping gas into her car and was walking back to the vehicle when she was approached by the two suspects. One of the suspects pointed a gun at her chest. The woman was also pushed in the chest as one of the suspects yelled profanities at her.

One of the suspects took the woman’s car key and got into her car. The other suspect got into a dark sedan the suspects had been driving. The dark sedan followed as the stolen car was driven from the scene.

Police took accounts of the incident from several witnesses, who heard the woman screaming. One witness followed the suspects in his car. He gave up the pursuit after the suspect in the stolen car pointed his gun at him.

Minutes after the incident took place, a motorist called police to report seeing two cars “racing” on Chatfield Drive. The caller said that one of the cars was a white Volkswagen Jetta, which was the model of car stolen from the woman.

The witness saw the Jetta pull to the side of a black sedan -- the car the suspects had used to drive to the gas station. A man got out of the Jetta and into the black sedan near Chatfield Drive and Cedar Road. Police recovered the Jetta where it had been left on the side of the road.

The black sedan sped off east on Cedar Road, and was soon after stopped by police. The two suspects, who kept the woman’s purse, are still at large. Police hope to use fingerprints to identify them.

Improper discharge of a firearm: Coventry Road

At 11:55 p.m. Oct. 17, a man, 25, reported that as he was in his second-floor apartment, he heard gunshots. The man did not immediately realize that the shots had entered his dwelling and waited 25 minutes before calling police. Officers found that a bullet initially struck a dining room wall, then went on to break a window.

A second broken window was found in a bedroom. The man’s roommate, 29, was in the bedroom when the bullet struck the window. The two men did not see who fired the rounds.

A third bullet was later found in a neighboring second-floor porch roof. Police are investigating.

Domestic violence: Cleveland Heights Boulevard

At 12:30 p.m. Oct. 18, police were called to a home where a mother was involved in a physical altercation with her daughter, 17. Officers arrived to find the mother on top of her daughter, pinning her to the floor, as the daughter yelled for her to get off.

The officer ordered the mother off of her daughter and she complied.

The mother told police that her daughter was being disrespectful to her. As the two argued, the daughter packed a bag and said she was leaving. The mother told her not to do so because of her past history of running away.

The mother said she physically blocked her daughter from leaving and the daughter responded by pushing her.

The two then pushed each other until, the mother said, she pinned her daughter on the floor to restrain her from punching and kicking. The woman said that her daughter grabbed her by the neck and she responded by biting her fingers in an effort to get her to let go.

The girl said she was arguing with her mother about an incident stemming from her arriving home late the night before. She said her mother began calling other relatives to tell them about what the girl did, prompting the girl to want to leave.

The girl said she planned to call police so she wouldn’t be listed as a runaway. She said that her mother struck her first, then choked her to the point that she couldn’t breathe. The girl had a bump on her forehead from the altercation.

Also in the home were the woman’s sons, ages 15 and 11, who tried to break up the fight. Officers spoke with the sons to learn more about what had taken place.

Police turned over the girl to a local youth academy for children with behavioral difficulties. The prosecutor, meanwhile, is determining whether a charge of domestic violence will be filed against the mother.

Disorderly conduct: Noble Road

At 4 p.m. Oct. 19, police were called to an apartment building, where two women had fought about one not holding open a door for the other.

One of the women told officers that a brick is always used to hold open the rear door to the apartment for those who do not have a key handy.

She said that the other woman often removes the brick. On this occasion, the woman told police, she was following behind the woman who removes the brick into the apartment. The woman who entered first allowed the door to close and lock.

The woman outside became angry and, when she was able to get into the building, went to the other woman’s apartment. She told police that an argument ensued and that the other woman “posted up” as if ready to fight. The two then engaged in a physical fight.

The woman who didn’t hold the door open told police she didn’t want to do so for the other woman.

Both were charged with disorderly conduct.
