NJ Transit bus service will be suspended at 6 p.m., commuter trains stop at 7:30 p.m., and light rail service will end at 8 p.m., Wednesday due to the snowstorm, according to agency alerts.
The last bus will leave New York’s Port Authority Bus terminal at 6 p.m., according to an alert from NJ Transit. South Jersey bus service will continue to operate as long as weather and road conditions allow.
Private bus carriers have modified or will suspend service, due to the storm that is expected to dump 18 inches of snow on the region.
The last trains will depart earlier on some rail lines, passengers should check twitter announcements for their line.
Commuter rail systemwide will be suspended at 7:30 p.m., while Hudson Bergen and Newark Light rail will stop running at 8 p.m., and the River Line will operate until the end of the service day.
Buses had been running on a regular schedule earlier on Wednesday, with trains operated on a level 2 modified schedule. The only bus routes that will be operating in South Jersey after 6 p.m. are: Bus Route Nos. 313/315, 501,502,504,505,507,508,509, 552, 553, 559, 317, 404, 405, 407, 413, 414, 417, 419, 450, 451, 452, 453, 455, 457, 400, 401, 402, 403, 406, 408, 410, 412, 459, 463, 551, 554, 555
The suspension is slightly short of the four hours officials said they’d hoped to give riders to get home.
“We may have to suspend service, we will give four hours notice to allow them (riders) to go home,” said Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti, state transportations commissioner about suspending rail service during a press conference earlier today.
With high wind gusts in the forecasts, rail service could be affected due to fallen trees or winds taking down catenary wire that powers trains on some rail lines, she said.
The Xclusive Bus Lane on Route 495 to the Lincoln Tunnel will be closed Thursday morning.
NJ Transit implemented cross-honoring of tickets between trains, buses, light rail and private carrier buses. Passengers should check NJTransit.com and the agency’s social media feeds for schedule changes.
