IOSCO COUNTY, MI – Distracted driving was the cause of a crash involving a car and horse-drawn buggy in rural Iosco County, according to Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police West Branch Post were dispatched about 10:45 p.m. Dec. 18 to an injury crash involving the buggy on M-65 near Anderson Road in Reno Township, roughly 15 miles west of Tawas City.
The buggy and a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix were both headed north on M-65. The car hit the buggy from behind, per a statement from Michigan State Police.
A 32-year-old Hale man driving the car admitted to police he was distracted prior to the collision.
Seven people aboard the buggy -- ranging from six months to 34 years old -- were not seriously injured and did not require medical attention.
The crash remains open and pends further investigation, police said.
Iosco County EMS and personnel with the Whittemore Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.
