Prepare your crying doves and get ready to party like it’s 1999—Prince’s Purple Rain tour bus will soon be up for grabs.
Nerdist reports that the 1983 Eagle Model 10 motorcoach bus (which, yes, is various shades of purple) will be auctioned off via Mecum from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5. The Wisconsin-based auction house—which has been specializing in the sale of cars since the eighties—intends to sell the rock star’s former tour bus from its Houston location.
Known for his lavish style and ostentatious ways, the inside of Prince’s Purple Rain tour bus does not disappoint. Mecum lists “high grade soft leather seating” and a “master suite with private air conditioning, separate stereo system and flat-screen TV” amongst its more luxurious amenities.
While the bus has changed owners numerous times, it would appear that each has preserved the entirely purple color scheme of the bus’s interior. There’s even a purple night light.
According to Road & Track, Prince rode in the bus in the fall of 1984. The artist and his band, The Revolution, began the Purple Rain Tour in Detroit before ending it in Miami during the city’s “Orange Bowl” (later deemed “The Purple Bowl”).
Despite some saying otherwise, it is a well-known Prince fact that the singer (obviously) loved the color purple. Prince’s half-sister, Sharon Nelson, stated that the musician loved “many colors of the rainbow” but was drawn to purple specifically for its royal vibes.
Prince’s love for purple was so well-known, in fact, that a shade of the color was named after him by the Pantone Color Institute. Its name? “Love Symbol #2,” honoring the unpronounceable character that Prince layer copyrighted as “Love Symbol.”
A starting bid value for the Purple Rain tour bus has yet to be set.
