BellefontainePolice Patch-200Dane K. Brown, 39, of 409 Clark Ave., was charged Friday with disorderly conduct after a Bellefontaine City School bus driver reportedly he was yelling at children other than his own while a bus stop.

Brown accompanies his two daughters to the bus stop and has yelled a children in the past, the bus driver reported. He had been warned in the past about his behavior.

He later met with officers and was issued a summons.

Drivers face OVI charges

Travis L. Cook, 24, of 713 Cooper Ave., was charged Friday with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He also was issued traffic citations for no operator’s license, a seat belt violation, a marked lanes violation and an unsafe vehicle.

Around 11:50 p.m., an officer of the Bellefontaine Police Department on patrol observed a southbound sport utility vehicle on Ludlow Road with sparks coming from the vehicle’s low hanging exhaust system. Cook was driving the SUV and he drove across the double-yellow center line multiple times and across the side fog line.

A traffic stop was initiated and the officer noted visible signs of impairment while talking with Cook. Repeatedly throughout interaction with the officer he denied abusing drugs or consuming alcohol. 

Field sobriety tests indicated he was impaired by drugs use. When asked again about substance abuse, Cook admitted to smoking marijuana.

He was taken into custody and provided a urine sample for laboratory analysis.

• Robert C. Anderson, 56, of 715 W. Chillicothe Ave., Apt. 17, was charged Saturday with felony OVI.

At 9:55 a.m., officers were alerted by witnesses of possible intoxicated driver at Advanced Auto, 624 S. Main St. Anderson drove from the store to Wendy’s, 700 S. Main St., and parked after picking up food at the drive-up window.

Upon contact with Anderson, officers noted a strong odor of alcohol and asked him to exit the pickup truck. He repeatedly refused even when ordered out of the vehicle.

He was pulled from the pickup, taken to the ground and handcuffed before he was escorted to a cruiser for transport to the Logan County Jail.

Once there, he refused to participate in sobriety tests or voluntarily provide a breath, urine or blood sample. This was his fourth OVI arrest in 10 years making it a felony.

Officers sought a search warrant for a blood sample which was granted by a judge. The sample was submitted for laboratory analysis.

Anderson also was served two warrants for failure to appear.

The 11-year-old son of Anderson girlfriend was in the pickup at the time of the stop. He was released to his mother. The arrest report was forwarded to the Logan County Children’s Services for review and to prosecutors for consideration of additional charges.

Owners recover stolen bicycles

Jordan Brannan, 20, at large, was charged Monday with theft.

He was observed by Nate Schweitzer and Amber Holycross, both of 509 Albert St., Apt. B, riding her bicycle which was stolen that morning from outside their residence.

They stopped him, retrieved the bicycle and asked him about another bicycle stolen on March 7. Brannan led them to the other which was at 616 S. Main St.

He was located walking along west Chillicothe Avenue near the railroad crossing and taken into custody.
