(UPDATE 8:30 p.m.) -- The Utah Department of Public Safety provided an update regarding a single-vehicle fatal crash Monday on Interstate 15. The statement says:
On March 22, 2021 at 5:08 p. m. a Suzuki S4X was southbound on I-15 near 12800 South when for an unknown reason it veered left and struck the center concrete barrier. The vehicle then crossed all lanes and struck the right side concrete barrier. The driver of the vehicle was the sole occupant and was unresponsive on scene, he was transported to a near by hospital where he was pronounced dead. It is apparent that the driver of the vehicle was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash."
(KUTV) -- A one-car accident killed one person and closed lanes on southbound Interstate 15 Monday evening.
Utah Highway Patrol said it happened near 12300 South that blocked several lanes for a law enforcement investigation. UHP reported the crash at approximately 6 p.m. and said it expected within three hours. It is not yet known what caused the crash.
At first the crash was said to have "critical injuries" by police but shortly before 7 p.m., UHP said the crash had taken a life.
"The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle," UHP said in a tweet.
Some traffic was able to get past the crash in the left lanes.
