HACIENDA HEIGHTS — A gunman remained at large Saturday after a car-to-car shooting on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights resulted in a multi-vehicle crash and left a man dead and his two sons injured.
The California Highway Patrol said that three people were injured and transported to a hospital by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.
The man died at a hospital, California Highway Patrol Officer Dion Conley confirmed. He could not provide further details.
CBS2 reported the fatal victim was a 35-year-old man from La Puente, the father of the other two victims — a 13-year-old boy who was seriously wounded in the incident and 16-year-old boy who suffered less serious injuries — and that a witness said he was behind the wheel of a white Chevrolet Avalanche when shots were fired out of the passenger window of the other vehicle, which sped off.
It was unclear if any of the victims were struck by gunfire.
The shooting and subsequent crash was reported around 12:28 p.m. on the 60 Freeway near Seventh Avenue, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig said.
The suspect vehicle was described as a gray Toyota Corolla or Camry, Kravig said. No suspect description was available. More details on the shooting were not immediately released.
After the shooting and collision, the CHP closed down all eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway at the 605 Freeway interchange where traffic was being diverted, authorities said.
All lanes had reopened by about 9:30 p.m., Caltrans reported.
