(KNSI) – The alleged driver of a car that killed Mack Motzko and another man turned himself into Orono Police on Wednesday.
The 51-year-old suspect was booked into the Hennepin County Jail and held on two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
The Orono man allegedly admitted to police that he had been drinking before getting in his Bentley and driving.
Neighbors reported the vehicle was going faster than 100 mph in a 40 mph zone around a curve on a small hill when the car crashed near the suspect’s home in Orono.
Twenty-four-year-old Sam Schuneman and 20-year-old Mack Motzko, the son of former St. Cloud State University Coach and current Gopher Men’s Hockey Coach Bob Motzko, were both killed in the crash.
Mack graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 2020.
Bob Motzko coached the SCSU Huskies for 13 seasons before taking over the Gopher’s program in 2018.
