Both Daviess County Public Schools, and Owensboro Public Schools are teaming up for the 5th Annual 'Stuff the Bus" to help prepare local students for the upcoming year.
School buses from both districts will be located in the parking lots of two local Walmart locations with staff members of the Family Resource Center/Youth Service Center outside each store, handing out supply lists to patrons and loading the buses with donations.
Officials say any student who doesn't have the supplies needed in the classroom will get those items on the first day of school. Students can also visit their resource center anytime time during the year if they run out of supplies.
"Anything we can do to help the mental health of our students this year, especially after last year, we're going to do that. 'Stuff the Bus' continues to do that every year and we see immediate benefits towards our students," says Mark Moore, Principal, Owensboro Innovation Middle School"
Items that would help a local child include :
- Paper (loose leaf and notebooks)
- Scissors
- Pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons
- Backpacks
- School Glue
- Rulers
- Folders and Binders
- Calculators
Officials say last year, they raised almost $8,000 in supplies, and $1,400 in donations. They hope to match and exceed that limit today.
The buses will be parked at 3501 Frederica St. and 3151 Kentucky 54 from until 5:00 p.m. Thursday. For those who can't make it to Thursday's event, you can donate supplies any time during the year at one of the local schools.
