MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — An area school bus company is warning drivers to be more careful near stopped buses.
Kobussen Buses out of Marshfield says they’ve seen more people illegally passing a stopped school bus than usual through the start of the school year.
If a driver sees you pass illegally, they’ll report your license plate to law enforcement, who will send you a ticket.
They say this has been an issue lately in areas with more drivers.
“It’s going to get worse because in the mornings and in the evenings it’s going to start getting darker. So the lights may be easier to see in the dark, but not the kids. I just would like everybody to pay a little more attention,” Kobussen Marshfield general manager Darren Wilson said.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, drivers cannot be closer than 20 feet behind stopped buses with flashing red lights.
