A Clare County man wanted for stealing a car and fleeing police in October was nabbed Wednesday with guns, drugs, ammo and body armor in the repainted vehicle by a state police fugitive team.
State troopers initially stopped the man north of Clare about 11 p.m. on Oct. 21, but he fled.
“After brief contact with the driver, he fled the scene at a high rate of speed,” police said.
“Troopers, with assistance from the Clare County Sheriff’s Department, attempted to locate the vehicle with nil results. Further investigation that evening revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a residence near Harrison.”
An arrest warrant was issued for the driver, a 59-year-old Clare man who already had an outstanding warrant in Clare County and a suspended driver’s license.
Fresh charges were issued for stealing the car, fleeing and obstruction a police officer.
Fugitive team members spotted the man Wednesday afternoon and arrested him.
They said the stolen car had been repainted and had a different plate on it.
Seized besides the car were: 3.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, an SKS rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, hundreds of rounds of 7.62 ammunition, approximately 100 rounds of .22 ammunition, shotgun ammunition, body armor, two high-capacity SKS magazines, and two high-capacity .22 magazines.
The suspect is in the Clare County Jail pending arraignment.
