CLEVELAND, Ohio — Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority is asking the public to weigh in on a proposed redesign of its bus system, before the authority finalizes changes that are expected to go into effect next summer.

Members of the public are asked to provide feedback about the changes by attending virtual information sessions on RTA’s Facebook page, or online at http://www.riderta.com/nextgen, an interactive website that includes maps showing current routes, proposed routes, frequency of service, and connectivity options between routes.

“We urge the community to take advantage of the limitless possibilities offered on the NEXT GEN RTA website, allowing riders to virtually explore and investigate their trip options,” said RTA CEO and General Manager India Birdsong in a Tuesday news release.

RTA’s proposed bus network redesign was made public in August and aims to boost frequency on several popular routes, reduce the need for transfers on trips between Cleveland and the suburbs, and prioritize service to work, education and healthcare locations.

To achieve the changes, RTA expects to reduce service or frequency on some routes, including those that are in close proximity to routes with more frequent service, RTA previously told cleveland.com.

Final maps that could include changes prompted by the public’s feedback will be presented to RTA trustees on Dec. 1. RTA hopes to implement the new bus system in June 2021 after a public education campaign in spring.

Those without internet access can still participate by calling the RTAnswerline at 216-621-9500 to learn about the redesign, request a fact sheet be mailed to their home, and provide feedback.

Video of the Facebook Live informational meetings will be available on RTA’s website in the coming weeks so those who cannot attend live can view them later.

Some of the Facebook Live sessions will focus on changes made to particular geographical areas. The schedule is:

-Monday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m. (northeast zone)

-Thursday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m. (northwest zone)

-Thursday, Nov. 5 at 11:30 a.m.

-Sunday, Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. (southeast zone)

-Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 11:30 a.m. (southwest zone)

-Monday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. (presentation to advocacy group Clevelanders for Public Transit)

Feedback can be made 24 hours a day on the interactive website.
