LIBERTY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle accident that involved a Community Bus Service vehicle that rolled over after the collision.

The crash, which sent two people to hospitals with minor injuries, occurred about 8:15 a.m. on Belmont Avenue at the Tibbetts Wick Road intersection. Nine students were in the bus at the time.

According to the patrol’s report, the 2008 Thompson bus operated by Community Bus Service was southbound on Belmont and collided with a westbound 2016 Toyota SUV that failed to stop for a red traffic signal on Tibbetts Wick.

The Toyota struck the bus on the left side with such force that the vehicle and overturned onto its right side, sending the bus about 50 yards south of the intersection.

A substantial amount of debris at the intersection that had to be cleaned off, and some of the morning rush-hour traffic on Tibbetts Wick Road had to be diverted as authorities processed the scene.

The Toyota’s driver, Christine Aiko Twaddle, 31, of Meridian, Idaho, was not injured, according to Sgt. Michael G. Wilson of the patrol’s Southington post.

The SUV sustained heavy damage on the front-end and engine block.

An adult passenger, who was not identified in the patrol report, in the Toyota SUV was transported to Trumbull Regional Medical Center with minor injuries by Vienna Township emergency medical services.

Wilson said the students were from the Liberty school district.

The driver of the school bus, Asia Jael Stubbs, 21, of Warren, was not injured, nor were the nine student passengers who were being transported at the time of the accident. A 911 report said the bus was cleared of passengers by 8:20 a.m.

An adult student-aide passenger on the bus was taken by Brookfield Township EMS to St. Joseph Warren Hospital, with minor injuries.

Twaddle was issued a citation on charges of failure to yield and distracted driving.

Alcohol / drug impairment is not a factor in this crash, Wilson said, while adding that the accident is still under investigation.

Departments assisting at the scene were Liberty Township police, fire and EMS, and Brookfield Township EMS.
