AKRON, Ohio — A man took a woman’s car at gunpoint in the West Akron neighborhood, with the vehicle later found burning not far from where it had been stolen.
Police say the carjacking occurred at about 1 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Seward Avenue and Little Street, which is near Kerr Park just south of Copley Road. The 36-year-old woman tells police that she and her 48-year-old male passenger were at a stop sign when an unknown vehicle bumped the rear of her 2017 Nissan Maxima.
Both got out of the Nissan to see if there was any damage. A male from the car behind them then got out and pulled a gun on them, telling them to step away from the Nissan. Both victims ran from the area and the suspect drove away in the Maxima. The driver of the suspect’s vehicle also left.
The Maxima was found on fire minutes later less than a mile away on the 1300 block of Cordova Avenue. The Akron Fire Department was called to put out the fire.
The armed suspect was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, jeans and a mask. No description was available of the driver of the suspect’s vehicle.
