IRON MOUNTAIN — Witnesses said a car sped through a portion of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Independence Day parade route Saturday morning before the start of the event.

Law enforcement agencies in Dickinson County had no information available Monday on the incident.

The southbound car was traveling well over the 25 mph speed limit on Carpenter Avenue — perhaps as fast as 60 mph or more, some spectators estimated — but no one reportedly was injured. The car, believed to be a Chevrolet Monte Carlo, was observed in the area of E Street and drove on the wrong side of Carpenter Avenue to evade a parade barrier at the intersection of H Street.

At least one officer on foot had to get out of the path of the vehicle, which headed south past the intersection of Woodward Avenue, witnesses said.
