The Capital Area Transport Authority, or CATA, announced in a rider alert Monday they will resume limited regular bus services effective May 4.
According to the alert, operations will resume at a modified level of weekday bus service with weekend services returning to regular levels for most routes.
Riders and operators will be required to wear a face mask covering both their nose and mouth prior to entering.
This follows Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive order stating all individuals able to medically tolerate a face covering must wear one when in any enclosed public space.
New signs have been placed inside buses to ensure riders adhere to the 6-foot social distancing guidelines and no riders will be permitted to stand in bus aisles, according to the press release. Hand sanitizer dispensers will be installed on all 40-foot and 60-foot CATA buses.
“We are adhering to the governor’s orders and have partnered with the Ingham County Health Department to ensure that our fleet-sanitization and disinfecting protocols – which occur between trips, at shift change and at the end of service each day – are of the highest standard,” CATA CEO Bradley T. Funkhouser said in the press release.
All CATA public facilities will remain closed until further notice and late-night services remain suspended, according to the alert.
“Many of our citizens rely on public transportation to access their workplaces and many other essential needs, so a gradual and cautious reopening of public transportation is a critical step to meet the needs of the community,” Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail said in the release.
