Cincinnati Metro to suspend bus service at 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday - The Cincinnati Enquirer

Cincinnati Metro will suspend bus service at 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in accordance with the citywide curfew.

This decision was purely based in response to the city's curfew, Brandy Jones, vice president for external affairs for Metro, said.

Metro will follow the city's directive. If there are curfews after Sunday and Monday, Metro will look into how it will change their service, Jones said.

Jones said Metro is now alerting the public to the schedule changes. The complete bus schedule can be found online for essential workers, who are permitted to be out past curfew, and need to catch a bus before all service is shut down.

Cam Hardy, president of the Better Bus Coalition, said he will be fine getting a ride home after he gets off work around 11 p.m., but he is worried about others.

Hardy said he rides the bus with a 59-year-old woman who does not have any disposable income to spend on ride sharing services. He is worried about her and if she will have to walk home.

Hardy added that letting people know only hours before the buses will close is bad communication. He said a message should have been sent out earlier Sunday morning.

Hardy, who works at a law firm during the day and does security downtown on the weekends, said there were better ways to go about this.

He said that the Cincinnati Police Department and Metro should have worked together to keep buses running, but just reroute them around the protesters.

"Metro and CPD ought to be working hand-in-hand," Hardy said.

The bus schedules have already been affected by the coronavirus pandemic, Hardy said.
