CASTRO VALLEY — Firefighters who were dispatched to Anthony Chabot Regional Park to help an injured cyclist ended up discovering a vehicle that had driven over a nearby ravine, leaving one person dead and another injured.
The vehicle apparently went off Redwood Road and down the approximately 400-foot ravine sometime Friday night or early Saturday morning and ended up on a hiking trail near Bort Meadow Road and Upper San Leandro Reservoir.
It was discovered about 9 a.m., the Alameda County Fire Department posted on Twitter.
The names of the person who died and the individual who was injured inside the vehicle were not disclosed. A California Highway Patrol helicopter transported the injured individual to the hospital, according to the department.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
