At Churchill Terrace, residents lined the porches and parking lot to watch a parade of family members and well-wishers roll by Saturday.
The Jefferson City Breakfast Rotary Club planned the "Parade of Hope" with the intention of supporting residents isolated and without visitors in the wake of COVID-19. Members of the Fulton Rotary Club and people with loved ones at Churchill Terrace joined in.
The Roberts family usually stops by frequently to visit and put on a Bible study, but it isn't the same talking through a window, Peggy Roberts said. She thought the parade was a wonderful idea.
Nancy Berrey placed a sign with a message of love and family photos on the side of her car. Her parents, Thomas and Lorine Hart, both live at Churchill Terrace.
"It's been very stressful — they can't get out, we can't get in," Berrey said.
Pam Cottam, who showed up in her bright orange Ford T-Bucket, came because her mother, Carol Johnson, lives at the facility.
The weather was perfect Saturday for sitting outside and enjoying a warm breeze. Residents were spaced 6 feet apart around the parking lot and waved and cheered as the train of honking cars glided past.
"That's what it's all about — bringing a little joy to those folks over there," Cottam said.
