4 bystanders went the extra mile for woman with car trouble (Your letters) - syracuse.com

To the Editor:

In these troubling times of the horrifying murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, I want to share my experience yesterday when my car wouldn’t move in traffic. Four people came forward almost immediately, two of them my race, two of them another.

In the heat, two men pushed my car up a busy intersection at Burnet and Teall avenues. They walked away after, accepting only a thank you when I wanted to give them each a check. I don’t know their names.

Another man and a woman helped me after my car was pushed into the driveway of a corner store. I didn’t have a cellphone with me, and the woman made a call for me to have my car towed and lent me her phone to call home. The man checked out the car a little, and left after I had somewhat calmed down. Didn’t get his name, either. He said that he was glad I was safe, and that was enough for him.

The woman stayed with me and then offered to drive me home, which was quite a way from where we were. I had been unable to reach my husband. She also brought my car keys to the garage where my car was towed.

I am so thankful for these four people and so happy that I live in the Syracuse area instead of Minneapolis. May we do everything we can in this city to continue to nurture loving and caring relations among peoples of various ethnic and racial backgrounds.
