The driver of a 2012 GMC Acadia was involved in a head-on collision just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 1, south of Wilder Ranch. For an unknown reason, according to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Acadia veered into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The driver of the Jeep, a 57-year-old Santa Cruz man, was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the Acadia left the scene on foot. CHP confirmed the vehicle was stolen. The incident sparked a fire that was extinguished by crews with the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

The incident is still under investigation.
