A pedestrian died after being struck by a car in Hemet on Thursday, June 25, the Police Department said.
A 34-year-old San Bernardino resident was driving a 2002 Honda Civic west on Mountain Avenue near Soboba Street about 7:10 p.m. at the same time a 30-year-old Hemet man was walking along the north edge of Mountain.
“The pedestrian suddenly ran out from the roadway edge and entered the westbound lane of traffic, where a collision occurred,” Hemet Sgt. Dan Reinbolt wrote in a news release.
The pedestrian, whose name has not been publicly announced, was taken to a hospital, where he died. The driver stopped as required by law and was not believed to have been under the influence, Reinbolt wrote.
Mountain was closed to vehicular traffic in both directions from Soboba Street to Lake Street for about four hours.
