Say ‘I do’ from your car, thanks to drive-thru N.J. wedding service - NJ.com

If you’re looking for a unique way to get married while the coronavirus pandemic continues, look no further than I Do Drive Thru—a new wedding service in the state that allows couples to get married in their cars.

Launched by a group of four Australian celebrants more than a month ago, I Do Drive Thru is offered in a handful of major Australian cities, and was recently launched in two states in the U.S., including New Jersey. (The other is Las Vegas, Nevada.)

The process for couples is simple, Aretha Gaskin, the officiant for the New Jersey services, said. They submit an inquiry, Gaskin checks her availability, and they all agree on a date, time, and location.

“It’s a pretty simple and straightforward ceremony,” she told NJ Advance Media. “They can either stay in their car, or they can come out, adhering of course to all the social distancing rules.”

“The goal is to make it easy, simple, straightforward for those couples who have had to reschedule their ceremonies because of coronavirus, or who are just opting to choose for something simple and not elaborate,” she continued.

The Plainsboro-based officiant, who has been officiating weddings for more than 20 years, runs a school for officiants and celebrants in the state, which is how she got connected to the company in Australia.

The location depends on where the couple and Gaskin agree upon, although some suggested locations on the website include Liberty State Park in Jersey City, Washington Rock State Park in Green Brook Township, and Riverview Drive in Perth Amboy.

The service starts at $400, although there are additional costs for photographers, videographers, and cars for hire.

Since the New Jersey location officially launched a little over a week ago, Gaskin said the reception has been positive, although she hasn’t performed any ceremonies for the company yet. She is currently fielding inquiries from interested couples.

Couples are allowed to invite two witnesses to the ceremony, and livestream it, she said, with the possibility of bringing one or two more people to the wedding, depending on state regulations. However, this “drive-thru” option is targeted toward people looking for something simple and easy.

“I’m just super excited about being able to offer this service to couples throughout our state, and I look forward to working with all the amazing couples who are looking to get married over the summer and throughout the year, 2020,” Gaskin said.

“Coronavirus really turned our industry upside down, it really did,” she added, “so to be able to offer this service to couples and help them make their day special, it’s really something that I’m really looking forward to and excited about.”
