Trooper’s motorcycle hit by car on I-4 - Tampa Bay Times

A car driven by a 29-year-old St. Petersburg woman lost control Friday on I-4 after a wheel separation and barely missed hitting a Florida Highway Patrol motorcycle trooper conducting traffic enforcement.

The trooper was standing next to his motorcycle when he saw the car approaching on westbound I-4 near U.S. 301 around 2 p.m. He jumped over a barrier wall to avoid being hit and suffered a minor injury, a report says. The car hit the parked motorcycle. The woman was not injured.

The patrol did not release the identity of the driver or the trooper, citing its interpretation of Marsy’s Law, a constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2018. The law is meant to protect crime victims, but it deprives the public of information that had long been made available in Florida under the state’s public records law.
