A driver who died Friday when his car rear-ended a bus in San Jose has been identified by the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office as Romulo Soriano Jr., 40, of San Jose.

The crash occurred at 5:15 p.m. on westbound San Carlos Street at Buena Vista Avenue, three blocks west of Meridian. The Mitsubishi coupe driven by Soriano ran into the back of a Valley Transportation Authority bus that was pulling up to a stop outside the Buena Vista Midtown apartments.

Both of the Mitsubishi’s passengers were hospitalized: a 30-year-old man with life-threatening injuries, and a 36-year-old man with injuries not considered life-threatening.

The bus driver was also hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening. The two passengers on the bus were not injured.

The fatal collision was the 25th on San Jose city streets this year.
