A 15-year-old Menifee boy was in critical condition after he was hit by a car while walking in the road early Tuesday, July 7, the Menifee Police Department said.
The collision was reported at about 1:45 a.m. in the 30000 block of Newport Road. The initial investigation indicated that a person was driving a Honda car eastbound in the left lane and that the teen was walking west in the same lane when they collided, a news release said.
Neither speed, intoxication nor distracted driving appeared to contribute to the collision, the release said. The driver stopped as is required by law.
“The Menifee Police Department would like to remind the public to utilize safe pedestrian pathways orcrosswalks. Pedestrians are also reminded to wear reflective or bright clothing during hours of darkness,” the release said.
Police ask anyone with information on the collision to call their office line at 951-723-1500 or the non-emergency report line at 951-677-4964.
