MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Although the official United Way of East Mississippi Stuff the Bus event is a week away, the folks at Jeffery Wilson State Farm Insurance in Meridian got an early start in lending a helping hand Thursday.

With the help of the Dusty Social Club and some area businesses, people got a chance to donate school supplies and uniforms to make sure that area children will have what they need when it’s time to head back to the classroom next month.

“I just feel like that we as a community need to support our kids and let them know we’re there for them,” said Wilson. “We want to support our kids because our kids are our tomorrow and we want our kids to be successful and we want them to do well in school. This is just a small token of how we might help them do well in school by giving them the supplies they need to progress on.”

Stuff the Bus events will take place next Wednesday at Pilgrims Foodliner in DeKalb, next Thursday at Raisin’ Canes and Bonita Lakes Mall in Meridian and Tuesday, July 21st at The Depot in Philadelphia. Times on all these events are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
